Diffusion 2006 Prize Presentation
With Special Guest Slavek Kwi

Soundings is proud to announce the results of Diffusion 2006, an international competition designed to find the best in young electroacoustic composers. The top three pieces, by Lucas Fagin, Daniel Blinkhorn and Bryan Jacobs, will be performed in concert on Thursday 16 November. This is a rare chance to hear a special surround sound system. This will be followed by a performance of Karlheinz Stockhausen's masterpiece "Gesang der Jünglinge". Opening the concert is "Orgenviron Throbsine" by Slavek Kwi.

The Diffusion 2006 prize has been established by RTÉ Lyric FM and the Centre for Computational Musicology and Computer Music (CCMCM) at the University of Limerick. The 3000 euro commission for first prize will be presented by Lyric FM's Bernard Clarke.

Slavek Kwi is sound artist and composer whose main interest lies in the phenomena of perception. For the last 25 years he has focused on electroacoustic sound paintings. These are created mainly from site specific recordings, resulting in subjective reports for radio broadcast, cinema for ears performed on multiple speakers, sound installations integrated into the environment and live performances.

From the early nineties Slavek has operated under the name Artificial Memory Trace. He has published 11 albums and contributed to numerous international compilations. "Vibratility.Mozaik", a piece realised with Eric La Casa, received a prize in the Electroacoustic Sonic Art Category in the 29th International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art, Bourges 2002 in France.

This is the third Soundings event in a continuing performance series designed to open the senses to new forms of music, sound art and media interaction. The location is the beautifully restored Daghdha Space, John's Square, Limerick, Ireland. This Soundings event falls in the week of the Sionna Festival. We are happy to partner with Sionna this year.

Admission is only 5 euros at the door. University of Limerick students are free with student ID. Space is limited: first come, first served.
